In Color or Black and White
photography business resources
to help you make a living with your camera!

It’s not entirely black and white, a photography business can be many things. Whether you want to start a photography business, make money from your photographs, make money with your digital camera, or research the best places to buy black and white photography, I’ll try to shed some light on these topics for you, on the following pages.

The business of photography takes many forms. You can be a wedding photographer, which can be a rewarding, but challenging venture (just talk to my friend Patty!); you can be a freelance photographer, marketing and selling your images to newspapers, magazines; and you can also make money selling your photographs to stock photo agencies. You can be a portrait photographer, with a studio; or you can be a photojournalist, following and documenting action around the world. The potential is unlimited!

In the digital age, with your digital camera, you can sell your photographs on-line, through your own Web site.

But regardless of your desire, most of us have found success by specializing in one or two areas; for example you could start a black and white photography business; or a digital agency focusing on highly manipulated photos. As with any business, marketing accounts for roughly 80% of your success, and marketing to a narrowly targeted niche will bring better results than a “shotgun” approach, trying to sell to everyone.

Creating a solid business plan for your new black and white photography business, or your digital studio, will really help ensure you can be successful. Photography is a very competitive business – with just about everyone owning digital cameras, and the freedom that the Internet provides, the market is full of great images – some free for the taking!

You’ll have to be very good at marketing to get your photography business up and running. And to make some money at the same time!

So, whatevetype of photography business you choose, you’ll need to be well prepared. Here are my favorite resources to help you launch a successful venture – wedding or fine art; digital or film; color or black and white photography business!
